This piece explores the unpredictable rhythm of life through the familiar game of musical chairs. The four chairs represents different stages and circumstances we encounter along the way: success, comfort, love, and those times when we are feeling lucky in life. But like the game of musical chairs, we can never assume the chair beneath us will always be there. Ultimately this piece is a reminder to appreciate where you are but never get so comfortable you stop listening to the music.
Made with piano keys, vintage dollhouse chairs, an old yellow record, pillars, musical instruments, pocket watch faces, a stage made with a vintage ruler, sheet music, and a time chart from an old atlas. The chairs are adorned with vintage charms: The chair of success has a lion wearing a crown, the chair of comfort has two birds flying, the chair of love has a heart locket, and the chair of luck has a horseshoe and four leaf clover and a spring popping out of the floor catapulting into the air.
This piece is framed under glass in a 2.5” wide black hand-milled pine frame.
